VICTORIAN
SECRETS
Painted Ladies,
Gingerbread
and "Carpenter Gothic" in Texas

In
this dreary age of McMansions, condos and "metal buildings"
these dignified homes are still the best-looking in town even though
100 years have passed since fashion past them by. The era came to
an end with the passing of Queen Whats-her-name. With their filigreed
lightning rods, weathervanes, quoins, turrets, stained-glass windows
and fishscale shingles (to say nothing of the skeletons in the closets)
they remain the quintessential American "dream house" for
generations of Americans. |
Decatur:
The Former Waggoner Mansion
"This house is on the northeast corner of Decatur. While a little
run-down, I was impressed the first time I saw it about 15 years ago."

House Museum is a Victorian-era home that was relocated to the Historical
Park of Denton County and then beautifully restored.... What's interesting
is that the house showcases more than Victorian-era residence. It's
more like it's about Victorian living. The house, its furnishings,
and gardens all have been tailored to reflect Victorian-period living..."

"The Silk
Stocking Row in The Oak-Hickory Historic District is basically a collection
of historic houses built by wealthy, merchants along West Oak street.
Victorian architectural themes prevail, but the neighborhood presents
a fairly eclectic mix of architectural styles." -
