"Thorp
Springs is a historic school site. In the year 1873 when the country
was new and sparsely settled, when educational facilities were limited,
Add-Ran
College was established here by Uncle Joe Clark and his sons,
Addison and Randolph Clark.
It was a flourishing
school, and many men and women, found in the active places of life
to today, were its students; and obtained an education, in part
at least, at this place. They have sacred memories of the hills
and vales, of the beautiful surrounding of Thorp Springs, clustered
with the remembrance of association and school work here.
At a meeting held here, March 1, 1910, the Trustees of Add-Ran Jarvis
College, formally transfered the property to a new board of trustees.
This transfer placed the property where it can never be diverted
from its proper use, or fall into the hands of those who have digressed
from the truth. The charter provisions guarantee this." (See
