In 2008, renovations began on the Heritage building at W. Michigan Ave. and N. Loraine St., which was originally built ca. 1983. It officially re-opened on September 27, 2010 as the new Midland County courthouse. The 1930 courthouse was vacated and, as of this writing, still sits abandoned awaiting rehabilitation. - Terry Jeanson, February 2013

"When the 1905 Midland County Courthouse was demolished to build the current structure, the stones were hauled off to build two houses several blocks north of the courthouse square. One of these houses still exists at the corner of Michigan and Colorado. It has been painted yellow, but the years have chipped away at its facade, uncovering the original red Pecos sandstone. For years, county officials have tried to purchase the stones from the owner in order to make a replica of a gazebo that used to grace the courthouse grounds, but their efforts have thus far proven unsuccessful." - Terry Jeanson
