We're
two old shoes
tossed in a corner of the closet
old shoes that have grown comfortable
with the passage of time
and with each other
our soles have gotten thinner
and we have shaped our fit
as
feet flattened
and years went by
our threads are bare
we have gotten looser
and widened out
but nothing is better
than old shoes for comfort
around the house
we putter along
shuffling with an ease of familiarity
we know the everyday routine
have molded to our surroundings
sizes
changed
colors faded
holes in our toes
yes we've become
two worn-out shoes
still
quite a pair.
